Feminism for me is embracing one’s self and thus gaining a sense of empowerment. I consider myself a Feminist because I believe in the strength of the female and feel she should be treated equally to the man. I feel that pop culture is working greatly to increase awareness of the feminist movement. Songwriters like Adele, Beyonce, Shania Twain, and Carrie Underwood are bringing attention to the issue indirectly. Focusing on Carrie Underwood, her songs have always brought an empowerment to all women. Her newest hit, Church Bells, is just another great tribute that women will no longer tolerate abuse. I don’t agree that we should go around killing the men that abuse us, but we should equally take a stand against domestic violence. The darker song, Two Black Cadillacs, also shows two women who together put an end to the cheating man they both love. Other singers such as Reba have been empowering women for a long time. Her show, Reba, displays a woman who survives and handles whatever life throws at her, after her husband leaves her for another woman. Women do not only support the feminist movement, but men are often taking a stand as well. I personally love Rascal Flatts song Stand. Although not directly wrote about women, the music video portrays women in all walks of life decided to stand again. In the world of pop music, Beyonce is at the forefront of the feminist movement. Her song, Who Runs the World, easily displays the power of all women and the importance of them in this life. From the reading it is easy to understand that everyone should be a feminist. Although the word is often stereotyped, feminists is a great stand to take! I love how the reading really opened up being a feminist to all groups of people no matter where they come from or what their background might be. The writer seemed to also agree with my statement that feminism is an act of embracing yourself. By being a feminist, we are saying that women have rights, are not simply sexual objects, and that they must be treated equally. I often feel that women distance themselves from the idea of feminism simply because it brings a hippy thought to mind. By supporting such a movement, women often feel like they need to burn their bra, and dress like a man. I very much disagree. I consider myself a feminist. Although I do love my jeans and boots, and my passion is the “mans world” of agriculture, I love to embrace my femininity. I’ll admit, I don’t wear make-up very often. And I have had only one pedicure in my life. But I enjoy dressing up and watching the guys check me out. For me feminism is simply the word embracement. Being proud of who you are, where you come from, and what you stand for. I am not a sexual object. I am not the lesser of the sexes that has to stay and home and have babies. I am woman. Here me roar. Rascal Flatts: Stand Carrie Underwood: Church Bells Beyonce: Who Runs the World
