Two Cures for Factions 1)Remove causes a. Destroy liberty X i. Destroying liberty would be like destroying air. Liberty is as essential as air. 2 b. Make all citizens the same with passions, opinions, interests X i. Human reason is flawed (we don’t have perfect knowledge) ii. Humans pursue self-interest ( we don’t have perfect intentions) 2)Control Effects a. Pure democracy X b. Republic i. Able to contain the various interests of different factions ii. Able to contain more of the public will iii. Better in terms on construction If a faction consists of less than majority, then they are going to cause trouble. The majority of a faction rules in their own ideas/views, not everybody’s own good.  Pure Democracy 3
