Operating Systems ● CPU Cache:​ (CPU– central processing unit) is small, quick memory that stores  copies of info. and data from the most regularly used parts of main memory.  ○ Helps to decrease time it takes to access memory  ● RAM:  ​ (Random Access Memory) primary storage  ○ Volatile memory  ● Registers:​ extremely fast, small memory locations used to quicken  implementation of computer programs, providing access to commonly used  calculated values.  ● FAT​:​ Table of contents for the disk.   ○ directs the read/write arm of the hard drive to where data exists and helps  to access it.   ● Defragmentation:​ program that reorganizes the hard disk  ● TCP/IP:​ set of rules for transferring info. from one computer to another  ● Stand­Alone Computers:​ computers not connected to any other computer  ● Device Driver:​ allows for communication with peripheral hardware.  ● GUI (Graphical User Interface):​ Allows user to interact with computer and  devices connected to it.   ● Embedded Operating Systems:​ Computing system/device that performs a  specific function
