Developmental Psychology Week 4 Notes  Did in class discussion activity over bonding and how important bonding is through life  Ducks and imprinting  Attachment o 3 important figures:  Harry Harlow: took infant monkeys away from mother and put in cages  with a wire monkey (with a nipple and bottle) and monkey with fabric.  The monkeys stayed on the monkey with the fabric for 17 hours out of the  day and only stayed on the monkey with the wire for 1 hour out of the day.  John Bowlby: father of attachment theory. Said attachment is long lasting,  an emotional connection, and person specific (different relationship with  different people). Baby uses caregiver as secure base  Mary Ainsworth: found a way to categorize attachment  Strange situation­ assess if kid has attachment and how strong it is. The child is put in a strange environment with mother, stranger  comes in and talks with mother, stranger leaves and mother leaves. The behavior while mother is gone and when she comes back is  monitored.  Attachment styles:  Secure  Insecure  Avoidant  Resistant/Ambivalent  Disorganized  Look on blackboard for chart about types of attachment
