Jacqueline Avila▯ 5002386306▯ ▯ ▯ Getting to know Miss DiBenedetto ▯ Introduction: I. Many times we are afraid to approach the people around us. A. Whether it be in class, at work, or anywhere else in public, our brains trigger an alert known as “stranger danger”. B. In reality we fail to see the opportunity of getting to meet someone new. 1. Thesis: We encounter new people every day, some more outgoing than others and some not so much, but if they are anything like Catherine DiBenedetto, they are sure to leave an impact on you forever. Body: I. When I first met Catherine, I was a bit hesitant when it came to her last name which is “DiBenedetto”. A. Say it with me now(refers to class), class responds, “DiBenedetto”. Good! B. Right away, I wanted to know where she was from. 1. Now, Catherine is a California native, who grew up as an only child in Las Vegas. She's Filipino and Italian, but often gets mistaken as hispanic. Which is interesting, because I get mistaken as filipino when I'm actually hispanic! II. Catherine has a very interesting life. A. Catherine is Twenty years old but often feels older because of how quickly she had to mature. B. Catherine tries to balance school, work, and family. In her spare time she likes to go bowling about twice a week and go to the gym with her boyfriend, who is also her coworker. 1. They work together at the Hoover Dam in the photo department, so you know who can snap your pics now. C. She is obsessed with coffee and everything about it from where beans were grown, what determines the flavor of the coffee and how there are many different ways to brew it. III. Her personality is so unique, in a sense that she is always smiling, always friendly and always in a good mood. 1. Every time I speak to her, its as if my energy levels and spirits double in size! She is such a cool person to talk to and listen too. Just by what she's told me about her life and her dog, Sadie, who she adopted, I can tell she is going to go far in life. She's caring, outgoing, and has a spark in her that you don't find to often. IV. Catherine’s future is as bright as her soul. A. In 5 years, she sees herself as a nurse living in North Carolina, nestled in the heart of nature with her husband, away from all the desert landscape she grew up in. 1. But in her dream life, she would travel the world learning more about coffee beans and brewing it up her way all around the globe. 2. She would also like to travel back to Italy to see if her dads side of the family is still out there. Hopefully she takes me with her! Conclusion: V. I encourage you to turn around and meet the people around you. A. Stray away from being afraid of speaking to someone or being shy. 1. Because if the person is anything like Catherine, you're sure to make a good friend. B. Catherine and I have only known each other these past few weeks, but I know we will be great friends for a long time.
