Episode 8- L’Engagement (le 5 février 1941)  Marchetti and Servier talking o Out investigating somewhere- black market exchanges o Suspect- M. André o Good for careers to successfully complete sting o Stops André, takes bag full of illegal items o André part of German police- same man who talked to Henri o Marchetti threatened, almost arrested  Servier scolds Marchetti for hitting German police officer, not knowing he was German o Servier says Germans can deal in black market in occupied zone o Marchetti to be dismissed in 8 days o Marchetti says black market illegal even for German cops- plans to go after him  Thinks some items will end up at Mme. Berthe’s  Hortense and Daniel talking in bed o Daniel in bad mood recently- spending time with people who have nothing; unbearable for him o Rejecting affection o Marcel getting out of jail o Hortense doubts Daniel still loves her  Marchetti at Mme. Berthe’s o Recognized as customer o Finds fur- Mme. Berthe lies about it; German gave it to her o Threatens to shut down business o Mme. Berthe says mayor knows André well  Lucienne practicing with quartet o Kurt looking at her while playing o Lucienne makes up excuse to leave- furnace not working, she’s cold o She and Kurt go down to see furnace- M. Bériot trying to fix it o Kurt offers to get spare parts for them o M. Bériot finds wine, all toast to collaboration  Henri sees Natasha- asks about Marchetti o Von Ritter saw her last night- got info  Tripling patrols on line at all hours  Operation in Besançon o Henri will send info south to Essarts  Daniel and Gustave waiting for Marcel o Marcel hugs Gustave o Getting along better o Got off lucky- 3 months; some got 10 years  Lucienne finds “je pense à vous” written in blocks by Kurt  Marchetti at Larchers’ house about André o Hortense happy to see him; seems disappointed Jean came for Daniel o Tells Hortense about mistake with André o Asks to search Daniel’s office- she says no, but lets him search record book of patients  On way to Larchers’ for lunch, Marcel gets upset o Ruined the fun of Gustave’s toy duck o Gustave wants to stay with Daniel o Marcel and Gustave walk home  Marchetti finds André’s name in patient book o Hortense confronts him about liking her, he evades o Getting addictive amount of morphine- wants to investigate pharmacist o Hortense instigates kissing, etc.  Marie at café- trading for potatoes o Henri wants to talk o Asks her to get mail to someone- Essarts to Seurre  Marcel asks Gustave about Suzanne o Tells him he saw her leaving post office, he told Jean he didn’t know her o Finds rabbit- plans to eat it, Gustave wants it as pet  Henri asks Marie to be at bus stop every day o Driver will beep 3 times, she will go behind stop o Will find message under log o Will bring to Seurre Hôtel des Voyageurs o High risk for Marie- handling military intelligence  M. Bériot hints he arranged blocks for Lucienne o Awkward, Lucienne speechless  Daniel gets home, wants to have lunch o Fixes Hortense’s collar o Sees his desk is disorganized, Hortense lies o Sees bust on mantle knocked over  Lorrain gives Marie trinket (brooch?) o Marie loves it, but suspicious of black market deal o Doesn’t need to be in black market- can sustain themselves o Lorrain says things aren’t the same since he got back, feels like Marie is different o Marie denies any affair when Lorrain was away, he promises to stop  Marie hears bus horn, goes to stop, gets letter  Marchetti suddenly arrested in street  Henri and Judith talking over dinner o Henri somewhat trusts Marie- helped him spontaneously o Judith wants him to quit, but knows he can’t  Lucienne confronted by Kurt- doesn’t understand “me too” (she slipped note to him) o She gets very nervous, diverts  Patient comes to Larchers’ house “for pills”- goes by M. Gallois o Asks him to follow Hortense  Marchetti in Nazi office o André comes in, acknowledges that Jean found his morphine prescription o Mme. Berthe told André Jean came o Asks Jean to work for him to get info faster- in exchange, will get favor with André and promotion o Marchetti’s colleagues killed an officer in Essarts o Wants Jean to find out who receives messages in Essarts- Henri’s messages
