Day 2: Digging Deeper Our Reading and Written Reflections on David James Duncan’s River Teeth, Jeannette Winterson’s Deuteronomy: The Last Law, and Alexander Hemon’s Who is That? Were due at the beginning of class. - Welcome – Linda introduced new students (Tia and Guled!!!!) - Timed Draw – we were all given 60 seconds to draw in our sketchbooks given the prompt: a house on fire. After the 60 seconds, we shared with our table. Then we all got up and walked around to see the rest of the class’ artwork. Observations:  A lot of us drew a frontal view of a house (a template we share) – similarity  In a lot of the drawings, the fire came from one source – outer edge Linda’s notes:  Something of you comes out in the drawing  Don’t judge your own work right away - Attendance - Linda shared an experience she had at Rush River finding a river tooth of a very particular look and feel and a friend of hers finding something similar in a different part of the same river some time later. - Table Group Discussion – we discussed at our tables each of the readings and how we all felt about them. - Collective Winterson response: What did we think?  It was straight forward  Gentle tone  Challenging to read (historical and religious content)  “Snaking around”; “meanders with purpose”  Suggests varying your sources; seeking our your own (supplemental) information  What you know/learn not only impacts your present and future, but has the potential to reshape your (understanding of) your past - Timed Writing on River Teeth – we were given some time to write on the topic of our own river teeth (Duncan’s metaphorical description of moments in life that stick with us) - Sharing Out – as a class, we journeyed to the back of the room to sit in a circle and either share what we wrote about or read our writing to the rest of the class. - Logistics for Next Class o Picture You Assignment o Course Reader pages 47-110 o Write and Reflect – Assignment due submitted to moodle by Sunday!!
