A woman who was suspected of being a common prostitute could be apprehended by a special police ofﬁcer (married and older) and would be required to undergo a vaginal inspection and if found with STDs would be put in a cell for up to 3 months until cured b. Aimed at curbing disease in the military and districts with military presence (scheduled districts) c. STD treatments were highly ineffective- mercury, arsenic, potassium manganite, etc. for syphilis d. The treatments required periods of time in the hospital which caused worker shortages in those treating and those being treated (ex. nurses and sailors) 2
