TO: Brett Jensen FROM: Luke Rayburn DATE: September 23, 2016 SUBJECT: Important Concepts of Chapter 3 Chapter 3 exercises allowed me to become more familiar with the material master data record. As I navigated various material fields, it also helped me understand how different organizational levels and data intertwined throughout the whole SAP system to allow for a steady workflow and efficient means of integration. Throughout the lesson, there were three topics that were stressed to help me further understand the various uses of SAP: Material Master Record, Bill of Materials, and how to Review the Status of Materials. Material Master Record I used the Material Master Record throughout this chapter frequently as it contained important information regarding material management. Navigating through selected views allowed me to see what information makes up basic data, sales, MRP, and even accounting. These are all views that multiple departments have access to and provide up-to-date data for efficient analysis. Bill of Materials Reviewing the Bill of Materials (BOM) is essential to analyze each individual material in a finished good. Whether it is a Single-BOM or a Multi-Level BOM, navigating through the materials record will show all the data and information from start to finish for each of the materials. I was able to see information from individual materials that made up a pen such as the cap, cartridge, and even the crown. Navigating throughout the BOM helped me understand the importance of tiny details that are recorded for SAP. Reviewing Status of Materials Understanding how many finished goods and materials you have are vital for adjusting stock. Being able to see up-to-date data made it extremely easy and efficient for Inventory Management. Managing my stock and inventory can help save hundreds of thousands of dollars if done properly. Looking at the material list allowed me to see my current stock level for each material and even see the status as well. Importance of Materials Management Throughout this chapter, it was easy to understand that even the simplest information is important for a business to make every day decisions. It is more important that all of this information is up-to-date as latency is a company’s worst enemy. In a fast pace economy, waiting for materials could severely impact a company. Using SAP to help manage your materials and inventory can be the difference in whether a company sinks or floats. Total # Words # Sentences Avg. # # Commas (350-400) Words/Sentence 380 18 21.2 12
