Chapter 3 – Assessment and Classification of Mental Disorders Reliability = repeatedly getting same results under the same circumstances Test-Retest reliability = Some results at two different times Internal Consistency = Various parts of measure yield similar results Psychological Assessment = gathering info and draw conclusions 1) Observations – controlled, naturalistic, etc. 2) Interviews – Analyze verbal behavior, content, process of communication 3) Psychological tests and Inventories 4) Neurological Tests Psychiatric Classification System = Patterns of behavior are symptom variation, distinctly different (catalogue) DSM = Widely used classification system (Currently we use the DSM 5) Subtypes, specifies, remission, cost-cutting measures, comorbidity (2+ disorders) Cultural Factors in Assessments = determines if behavior is consistent in cultural norms (bias?)
