Klaudijus Zemaitis 9/12/16 MGMT 380-001 Case Analysis – MaxTrade This is a case analysis about the company MaxTrade whose major problem is the turnover of its IT personnel and the amount of money they are using on their IT strategy and not having anything to show for it. There is a big rift between the IT department and the rest of the business unit heads because they make sizable portions of money for the overall business they tend to have a lot of independence. Due to the large turnover of IT staff at MaxTrade the IT employees do not want to partake in office politics and just accept all projects they are handed, and they have accrued a whopping 932 projects which they do not have the time or resources for. Richard Fanning, a IT turnaround specialist has been brought in to get MaxTrade back on track. Discussion Questions Response #1 Back “on track” means to have the immediate issues being taken care of, the unit heads need to start being open to making some changes to the way they do business to match the IT goals so they can start working as cohesive units. Discussion Questions Response #2 The next steps are to open up a clear dialogue between IT and all the unit heads. The unit heads need to be able to go to IT and tell them how they do business and then they can go back and forth between what works and what doesn’t work to find solutions to their problems so they can start implementing the IT strategy. Compromises have to start being made by all parties. Discussion Questions Response #3 One year would not be achievable if they were just beginning a brand new IT strategy, but luckily they already have the required hardware to work with. It seems although they have the equipment no head way has been made towards the strategy that they want because of all the wasted software licenses, server capacity and development, and the frequent switching and integration of systems. I would say what is achievable, is getting the company back “on track” in the next year. But they will not be able to achieve everything they want to because an IT strategy takes couple of years to fully implement and smooth out.
