Functions of Presentation Aids  10­3­2016  Andy Isbell  ­May be visual or auditory based  ­Helps listeners remember  ­Creates interest  ­Conveys information concisely and creates understanding  ­Gives a professional image  ­Can help with transitions and emotional appeals  ­Avoid desensitizing the audience and leaving the audience hanging by not showing a photo of  something being described  ­Video/Audio visual aids may also be used, should not go over a minute  ­If it’s a documentary, it should be cited out loud with title and year made  ­This applies to music as well  ­Home videos don’t need to be cited  ­Physical objects may also be employed if they relate to the topic at hand  ­Avoid passing around objects unless it’s useful to do so ­No live animals, yet people may be used for demonstration purposes  ­Other presentation aid types: ­Maps ­Charts and Graphs  ­Handouts
