The four types of departmentalization are Functional, product, geographical and  customer. “PespiCo Inc. is product departmentalization because its products are  personal care, food, refreshment and home care” and also include Geographic  departmentalization. PespiCo is divided in location, state, region and country.  Proctor & Gamble have needs of many types of customers, such global baby,  feminine and family care.   • Explain the difference between groups and teams.  The difference between groups and teams is that groups are two or more  individuals who communicate with one another that have a common goal and  team is a small group which members have complementary skills. • What are self­managed work teams and what tasks might they perform that  traditionally are performed by managers? Self­managed work teams may have  given implement work decisions when problem are starting.  • Explain how delegating authority, responsibility, and accountability are related.  Delegating authority, responsibility and accountability are related in the way that  the employees have obligations and assign jobs.  • Distinguish between centralization and decentralization under what circumstances is each appropriate? Centralization is used when decisions are risky and the  managers are not skilled. Decentralization is used when it operates in different  environments.  • Define span of management. Why do some organizations have narrow pans and  others wide spans?    Span of Management are the numbers of subordinates who  report to a particular manager. Narrow spans of management are more common in centralization and wide spans of management in departmentalization.   • Discuss the different forms of organizational structure. What are the primary  advantages and disadvantages of each form? Line structure has authority to  extend from the top manager to the lowest level. Line­and­staff structure is the  relationship between the superiors and subordinates who are available to assist  managers. Multidivisional structure is a structure that organizes departments into  larger groups. Matrix structure sets up teams from different departments to create  a project structure.  • Discuss the role of the grapevine within organizations. How can managers use it  to further the goals of firm?  The role of grapevine occurs in informal  communication. Managers used grapevine for rumors and incorrect information  and improve decision­making.  • How have technological advances made electronic oversight a necessity in many  companies? Technological advances make it easier for employees to  communicate because they sometimes pass wrong information. Electronic  oversight is needed for employees to help them and use them correctly.  •  Discuss how an organization’s culture might influence its ability to achieve its  objectives. Do you think that managers can “manage” the organization’s culture?  An organization’s culture values are being shared to all members it’s always  positive.
