CWV 101 Week 5 The Fall of Humanity – Then & Now Genesis 3: - Satan in serpent form plants the seed of doubt of God’s goodness into the heads of Adam and Eve - Once they eat they become ashamed and insecure about their naked bodies - Adam blames Eve, and then says to God, “you gave me this woman.” - Eve blames the serpent - God curses the serpent, divides the man and the woman (creating the spiritual war,) 3:15 Protoevangeliom (first gospel,) saying that a women will give birth to the son of God that will heal this spiritual war. (premonition of Jesus Christ) Punishments Towards Humanity: - Women will have more pain in childbirth, they will desire to dominate their husband but will be dominated by man because of physical strength - Earth gets cursed: must work for food and work until death Then: - God clothed them from the skin of an animal (The first death). - Creates the idea that as the result of sin something has to be killed The “sin effective” = Cain kills Abel (the sons of Adam and Eve) ~ The great flood ~ Tower of Babel ~ Joseph’s brothers “In those days there were no kings in Israel; Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Judges 21:25 – meaning that humanity had rebelled against God. Vocab & People: Idoltary – The ultimate value besides God (often times being compared to an unfaithful spouse). Covenant – a solemn agreement between two people or parties, agrees to keep their end of the agreement Abraham – “The blessing of all people’s of the Earth.” God promised him three things: land, descendants (a great family name,) and to bless those who bless Abraham and to curse those who cursed Abraham.
