Dylan Weber Andy Blom PHL 118 PHL 118 Week 1 Take Care 2 Clues o Pay attention to something beyond ourselves o In many ways it’s something we and others do already First clue Take care for needs and legitimate expectations of others as well as our own o Trying to act ethically Systematic thinking Seeing relationships between values Critical thinking Started asking questions in collaboration or by ourselves Creative problem solving Rethink a situation once you’ve thought critically Dialogue and Responsiveness We need to be able to respond adequately and speak up when we need to Dr. King’s Value We listened to Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech and tried to pull some values we saw from the speech. While there were about 20 or so that we listed, here’s a couple that I found: 1. Protesting peacefully without violence; “We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.” Pg. 3 2. To achieve equality, they can’t be alone; “They have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone.” Pg. 3 3. Hold strong faith in troubled times; “Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.” Pg. 4 We discussed connections between some values, like “freedom” and “liberty”, or “hope and faith”.
