University of Oregon Spring 2011 PS 349 Mass Media amp American Politics REVIEW FOR MIDTERM EXAM The midterm will be divided into three main parts and a bonus section The midterm will be comprehensive and cover all the material up to now including the readings lectures and films The first part will consist of 5 multiple choice questions for 3 points each for a total of 15 points The second part of the midterm will be composed of 10 short answer questions Each question will be worth 5 points In the third part you will get to choose one out of two essay questions The essay will be worth 35 points Below is a list of potential exam questions The questions on the midterm will not always be phrased in exactly the same way Especially in regards to the essay questions several of the potential questions and topics will be combined Overall a good essay is precise concise and provides pertinent examples The bonus question will be worth 4 points A good start to prepare for the exam is to look at the lecture notes as well as to take another look at the chapters especially at the key terms and discussion questions at the end of chapters in the Mayer book Are you able to engage the questions and define the key terms When taking the exam it is important that your answers are as clear and precise as possible Don t let the reader guess what you are trying to say Make sure to answer all parts of a question You won t have to bring a greenbookbluebook to class You only will need to bring a pen or pencil You will have the entire class period to take the exam So take your time and if you finish early be sure to doublecheck your answers Most important of all never leave an answer blank or you will automatically receive zero points forthe question Leave your cell phone at home or make
