Who or what when where why Or people of significance Chapter 11 The Medici Familv Cosimo de Medici was a very rich Florentine banker during the early Renaissance He lived from 1389 until 1464 In 1434 Cosimo took control of the Florentine republic This period became known as the Medicean Age and was a time of peace and artistic brilliance Cosimo was seen as a brilliant and generous man Cosimo s most important contribution to the arts was a nearby monastery of San Marco Cosimo s grandson Lorenzo also did not take the title of prince when he took over but acted like a prince He was very active in public affairs of the state Also very involved in the arts Lorenzo is known as a much respected man of the Renaissance time Humanism Humanists were those who during the Renaissance followed Petrarch s approach to the classical authors They studied Latin and sometimes Greek The humanist movement spread rapidly throughout the fifteenth century They wanted to restore a type of Latin that had been dead for a very long time Their revival of the Latin literacy brought new words sentences and rhetorical models to light Leonardo Bruni 13701444 used humanist techniques to protect the republican institutions and values of the city He believed that men should devote themselves to active service to their city The humanists left a lasting influence with their educational curriculum and also filled the Renaissance with the Latin point of view Chapter 12 European voyages along the African coast the Columbian Exchange and the triangular trade in the Atlantic Ocean Conquest of Spanish America and impacts of the conquest America BEFORE conquest European Voyages along the African Coast Europeans first obtained gold through trading silver in the Maghreb They then learned that they could retrade the gold they got for more silver then they had used to get the gold in the first place Knowing this the Europeans would occasionally cross the Sahara with camels in order to obtain gold Due to the hostility of Muslim inhabitants the Europeans wanted to obtain gold through crossing the sea Chapter 13 The Lutheran Reformation and causes for it Ulrich Zwingli and the Swiss Reformation Henry VIII Thomas More and the English Reformation The Radical Reformation with examples of groups included Chapter 14 The Price Revolution causes and impacts Confessional identities and the suppression of popular culture The French Wars of Religion all of them in detail Confessional states in Eastern Europe Chapter 15 Thomas Hobbes along with the theory and practice of absolutism French Absolutism including Louis XIV his court culture and his wars Absolutism in Central and Eastern Europe including The Thirty Years War Movements against Absolutism in England and the Netherlands along with the causes and impacts of this resistance
