Editing “kuleshov effect= depending on the shot before, the audience is going to guess the situation and the emotions in the scene. Editing= the process of going from 1 shot to the next in a film. Styles: - continuity style : space and time stays the same, system of cutting. For example: we see a man reaching for the door with his hand with a long shot, then we see in a close up the hand on the same position. - Montage: editing film clips together “samuraj jack”, sound is major character. - Elleptical editing: a way of compressing time. Event doesn’t take as long as in real life. Reasons editing: gives the audience new information. Transitions: dissolve, fade in/out, fade to, black, wipe. Superimposition Cut in/away Shot/reverse shot Crosscutting: 2 scenes happen at the same time Jump cut: skip some action, make quicker or speed up Matching: cutting between 2 shots, applies not much in animation. Graphic match does : 2 shots joined based on their shape/geometry (psycho eye/drain shot) Eye-line match: character eyes must be on the same level Duration= effect on dramatic overtone. Overlapping editing Rhytm: pace how the shots are shown Screen direction: keep consistent shot to shot Matching on action: same action but cutted. Audience will not know how the shots are cut. 2 shots showing teh same action.
