Name Jake Ware Phyllis Kim Matt Michie Mike Ross Tyler Featherson COM 114 Section TWF 330 Speci c Purpose To persuade the audience to choose our idea INTRODUCTION I Attention GetterSkit between 3 students 1 student is the cashier and the other 2 are students The first interaction will be how the union is set up without meal swipes and the second interaction is for a place in the union with meal swipe availability II Credibility StatementWe are all students here at Purdue and use meal swipes on a daily basis we also conducted research to see if there is a way to centralize an On TheGo and have restaurants close to campus accept meal swipes III Relating to the Audience Most of you in the audience use meal swipes and often struggle with how and when you will use certain meal swipes during the day IV Thesis Statement Students need to be aware of present dining swipe usage possibilities for a new location for an OnTheGo the proposed budgets for the locations and an alternative solution in case a new OnTheGo is unreasonable Directional transition First we are going to start off with how meal swipes are set up at Purdue and how they differ at Ball State BODY I The way meal swipes are set up now and how they differ at Ball State A Most of us know how the meal swipes at Purdue are set up 1 We can only use meal swipes at the dining courts on campus and the On TheGo locations as well Housing 2 We also have dining dollars that work at such places in the Union Cary Knight Spot Harrison Grille TarkMart and Boiler Crossing Housing a Dining Dollars usually tend to go fast and its expensive to spend Dining Dollars at places such as the dining courts B Purdue provides different options of meal swipes 1 The options are 20 15 and 12 swipes or students can choose the Block Plan Housing a Many students often struggle to use all of their swipes especially if they have 20 and 15 swipes Housing b It s hard for them to get to the residential part of campus when they have short breaks in between their courses so often many students just decide to skip meals c This becomes a problem because many students end up with accumulating unusable swipes and this directly affect their health because they miss meals C Ball State has a different setup for meals 1 They allow their students a 755 meal allowance per meal Campus Life However they do not offer their students the buffet style of dining They also allow students to use their swipes at commercial 3r party dining institutions such as Starbucks Taco Bell Quizno s etc Campus Life c They can also order online and then go pay with their meal allowances Campus Life D You can nd all of this information on both of these Schools dining websites if you interested in learning more 9quot Directional transition Now that you know about how the meals work at these two campuses we are going to propose a central location on campus to accept meal swipes II We want to set up a central location on campus for meal swipes A All students on campus spend the majority of their day on the academic side of campus B As stated before many students do not have the time to go back to the residential side of campus to use their meal swipes l Often times students are forced to use their own money out of pocket to pay for their lunch or snacks between classes a Their meals swipes go to waste and dining dollars are used more quickly b It becomes wasted money that does not rollover We think that either in the Union or the Steward Center there could be places to set up new OnTheGo locations 1 In the Union there are multiple locations for an OnTheGo a There is the dark creepy area with lots of booths next to Pappy s Sweet Shop and stairs b Another option would be to take out an existing restaurant that does not receive a sizable profit comparable to the others and replace it with an OnTheGo 2 The Stewart Center also provides a place that would be suitable for an On TheGo location a The little minimart within the central hallway of the building could easily be converted into an OnTheGo location b If converted most of the necessary equipment would already be available for use and a minuscule amount of money would be required to purchase the missing equipment D With these options many students would be allowed to use their meal swipes save Dining Dollars and not skip necessary meals because of the new convenience of a closer OnTheGo location 0 Directional transition Now that you have an idea of where this new OnTheGo location would be centralized we would like to explain a budget for the different possible locations 111 We will now explain the budget in detail to you A First we ll describe a budget if the creepy dark are in the Union was converted 03 0 D 1 The total for this budget would be 8875 for the necessary equipment 2 Here are some of the few items needed and their prices a Three Traulsen Fridges at 1800 a unit Traulsen Fridge b A cappuccino hot chocolate and cider machine at 49999 Cecilware Cappuccino Hot Chocolate Cider Machine c A soda machine at 500 Soda Machine d A small chest freezer at 42319 Small Chest Freezer If we convert an existing restaurant such as Zia that doesn t generate as much revenue as its surrounding restaurants we can cut the budget significantly 1 We can utilize such things as the fridges that they already have 2 We wouldn t have to buy a cash register 3 We wouldn t have to worry about counter space as much 4 Much of the budget would go towards aesthetics of the newly renovated location and shelving for the food If we converted the minimalt within the Stewart Center the budget would be more economical of the three locations 1 We would have all of the necessary equipment provided 2 Most money would be spent on making the location more aesthetically pleasing or to buy any missing necessary equipment Those are the budgets for the following locations Directional transition With an understanding of the budget we will share another way that dining swipes can be utilized effectively IV Here is an alternative solution if constructing a new OnTheGo location is not an option A DJ 0 U m As stated before Ball State allows their students to use meal swipes at franchised restaurants Campus Life Our solution for if our previous plan does not work is to ask franchised restaurants to implement a way to accept our student s meal swipes 1 Chauncey Hill would be the primary location that we would request that our meal swipes would be used Places such as Taco Bell Hot Box Pizza Subway Q doba Panda Express Chipotle McDonalds Triple X and other restaurants in that general area that offer quick food options would be preferred 3 The McDonalds by the Engineering Building would be another location for students Purdue Dining Service would be needed to work out a way that the local restaurants can get payment based on how many swipes are used at their locations Not only would this benefit students but this would also benefit the local community N This could potentially also lower the cost of food that the university prepares for the expected swipes and in turn wastes to feed students who are never able to use their swipes F Another option would to have all the restaurants in the Union and HTM Cafe to implement a way that certain meals can be meal swipe compatible CONCLUSION I Restate Thesis Students need to be aware of present dining swipe usage possibilities for a new location for an OnTheGo the proposed budgets for the locations and an alternative solution in case a new OnTheGo is unreasonable 11 Closing Statement When you are short on time or just can t make it back to the dining locations that are inconveniently placed near the dorms wouldn39t it be convenient to have the option of an additional Onthego location in the Union or Stewart Center or tohave the local restaurants accept meal swipes like Ball State Works Cited Cabinates nd Retrieved April 16 2011 from Lowes httpwwwlowescompd757023 5
