Intro to Engineering Analysis Class Date September 28th 2015 Hanging Object s Equilibrium in three dimensions Write down all the components of the ropes tensions in terms of the total tension 0 Ex If a ropes Tension follows the vector direction 326 then write the components as T37 T27 T67 respectively The length of the directional vector is 7 Add their forces and equate them with some value that the problem provides 0 Ex If an object is hanging and not moving in either the x y or z direction the x and y components of the vectors should add up to 0 and the 2 components of the ropes tensions should add up to the object39s weight After you have the 3 equations put them into a matrix according to the number of ropes 0 Ex If there are 3 ropes you should use a 3 x 4 matrix if there are 4 ropes you should use a 4 x 5 etc 0 Basically if you have n number of ropes your matrix should be n x n1 Then solve for the values using matrix algebra
