Dependent measures (modern techniques for measuring behavioral and psychological responses in controlled setting). o Reaction Time (RT) o Accuracy o Eye tracking o Event – Related Potential or Evoked – Response Potential (ERP) ERP o Averaged EEG responses that are time-locked to complex processing of stimuli o Advantage: Other brain imaging techniques take time to develop; ERP has rapid response. Continuous record (time-locked with record of stimulus presentation) of brain activity over time o Disadvantage: Difficult to pinpoint exact origin of electrical activity o Many ways to interpret ERP waves, but some consistent links have been discovered. Ex. : N400 (Negative 400 milliseconds) Sensitive to semantics In ERP when presented with incorrect words Ex. : P600 (Positive 600 milliseconds) Sensitive to grammar Increase in ERP when presented with incorrect sentence structure or syntax, conjugation, etc.
