MTED 5322 Week 6 October 3 2015 Meeting 4 Presentations 4 today 1St presentation Creating Shapes Activity Fryer model used to define the different shapes Activity Composite shapes make a shape out of several shapes 0 Make sure that all the shapes fit together by finding that the angles will always equal 360 degrees 0 Make sure the students know how the sum of angles both on the outside square or rectangle are 360 degrees triangle 180 degrees and he inside all angles meeting at one point equal 360 degrees 0 The discussion and explanation portion of the activity is essential to getting to the higher levels of Van Hiele 2nd presentation Congruent Shapes Begin by defining what is similar and congruent through PowerPoint Have a walk around after choosing a shape after music stops compare the shape you have with the person next to you see if the shape is congruent similar or neither go to the table with the label 0 Checkassessment I Have a class discussion I Have a check list for students to look at for explanations I Write about whatwhy their shapes are congruent similar or neither 3rd presentation pentominoes Pentominoes a figure formed by joining 5 equal squares edge to edge Begin with the book sitting in my box Give students 5 squares to work with and grid paper to draw their different combinations 0 12 combinations total 0 Linked with area and perimeter I look at finding perimeter of the combinations I know that the area is 5 from the 5 squares being connected Have students create their own box out of construction paper and use plastic animals to see how many fit in the 4th presentation origami Begin by showing a step by step tutorial to make sure that students understand the different techniques to folding At this point students have already reviewed the different vocabulary terms that would be implemented in the directions that will be provided without pictures Activity follow the step by step instruction on how to create a pendulum 0 Students can check to see if they followed the directions with the pictures afterwards Teach Group of 6th grade students October 24th 2 sessions 0 1 900 1000am 0 2 1015 1115am Arrive to class no later than 845 am Teaching in 3 different classrooms O 20 students and 20 parents 3 rooms 120 people 0 Will be teaching 80 people 0 Teacher will send an email to know exactly how many people will be attending Each person will be in a classroom for 2 hours teach both sessions 0 2 people per classroom 0 Can share time presenting between the two of you
