that I want you to use for this paper All these journals are housed in the basement of the library First you must choose and article There are several different ways to do this You could go to one of the journals listed below and browse for an interesting article Or you could find one that was mentioned in the text or class and read that one the citations for all the articles in the text are in the back of the book Or you could use a computer based search engine to find an article on a particular topic that you find interesting go to httpiwwwlibraryekueduidefaultphp and click on Find Articles then on PsycINFO My best advice is to try to find an article that is interesting to you This will make this assignment easier and more fun The article must be from one of these journals the exact wording of the title is VERY important Journal ofSociaIssuesavailable in the library and online if you go through PsycINFO Journal oprpied SocialPsychologyavailable in the library and online if you go through PsycINFO Journal of Experimental Social Psychologyavailable in the library and online if you go through PsycINFO Most of these journals go back many years and an article from any year is ok What I d like you to do first is outline the article The outline is instead of writing a summary of the article In case you are not familiar with outlining outlines contain brief statements organized in a hierarchical fashion They usually have headings and subheadings and subsubheadings etc along with more sentence like statements They may look something like this I Major heading perhaps something like Method A Subheading perhaps something like Participants B Subheading perhaps something like Procedure 1 Statement perhaps something like Participants first filled out several questionnaires Your outline should cover the ENTIRE journal article from the first sentence of the introduction right after the abstract to the last sentence of the discussion You will need to read the entire article very carefulyin order to outline it fully The outline should contain enough detail that I could read it and know what topic the article is about the introduction what they did to study it the Methods section what they found the Results section and what they think it means the Discussion section You do not need to include means standard deviations pvalues or other statistics in your outline It s more important to demonstrate that you understandthe results than it is to be able to tell me a bunch of numbers Your outline could easily be 4 pages long Iwill evaluate your outline on its completeness and clarity DO NOTQUOTE FROM THE ARTICLE AND DO NOTPLAGIARIZE Put things into YOUR OWN WORDS Next I d like you to provide your own commentary on the article This section is more important than the outline so please devote appropriate attention and effort to this section This is NOT a summary of the article do not include summary information Here are some questions you might consider although you could address others as well Do you think the topic of the research is important Do you have any criticisms or praise for the methodology used Do more than criticize the sample for being too small or only women etc Can you think of any implications of the research that the authors did not state Are their implications important How do the results of the research relate to your life What do you like the most about the article The least Is it cited in our text Should it be Do the results agree with our text Who should be the most interested in these results besides psychologists Evaluate the ethics of the study These are just a few questions that you could answer Any other comments or reaction you have are appropriate This section should be AT LEAST three WHOLEpages in length I know what half a page looks like This section should contain mostly YOUR IDEAS The expected length for your critique is 3 5 pages plus outline and must be typed double spaced 1 inch margins Your critique is an essay and grammar and structure is important and will be graded Please also turn in the cogz of the article Kou read it s ok if Kou have notes andgor highlighting all over it This assignment is due Monda OCtOber 24m Psy300 MPW PSY 300 PAPER GRADING GUIDELINES Grade Score Description F lt30 Did not follow the requirements of the assignment totally unsatisfactory ner Outline Chapter 10 Interperso39 Major Antecedents of Attraction 39 Friendships and close relationships are at or near the top of the list of what people say makes them happy people desire to be liked by even the most casual of acquaintances Major Antecedents of Attraction Why do we like those people we like or What are the antecedents of attraction Major Antecede nts of Attraction The Person Next Door The Propinquity Effect The nding that the more we see and interact with people the more likely they are to become our friends is known as the propinquity effect Major Antecedents of Attraction The Person Next Door The Propinquity Effect The propinquity effect works because of the finding that the more exposure we have to a stimulus the more apt we are to like it
