MATH 2057 Multidimensional Calculus Fall 2011 0910 1030 112 Audubon Hall Section 5 1040 1200 112 Audubon Hall Section 6 Instructor B Bourdin 344 Lockett Hall 1 225 5781612 bourdinsuedu Office Hours Monday and Wednesday 130 to 230 or by appointment Course Synopsis Threedimensional analytic geometry partial derivatives multiple integrals Textbook Multivariable Calculus Early Transcendentals by Jon Rogawski ISBN 0716772671 Prerequisites A first and second calculus course such as MATH1550 and MATH1552 The students are expected to be comfortable with the content of these classes and in particular with standard techniques for differentiation integration parametric equations conic sections and the geometry and calculus of vectors Content The course will cover chapters 1417 of the textbook The goal is to save enough time for an indepth study of the three fundamental theorems of vector calculus Green39s Stoke39s and the divergence theorems We will start fast and gradually slow down as the difficulty of the material increases Grading policy I will assign weekly homework which will make up 10 of the final grade Weekly quizzes will make up another 10 of the grade The remaining 80 of your grade will be computed using the following formula maxF E1E22F4 where F denotes the final exam grade and E1 resp E2 the first resp 2nd exam grade The inclass exams are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday 920 and Thursday 1027 Notes Students must abide by the LSU Code of Student Conduct Students may collaborate on homework problems however the final submission must be the outcome of each student39s individual work ie copying somebody else39s homework and submitting it as one39s own is not acceptable Calculators and documents of any kind will not be allowed during inclass exams and quizzes Cell phones laptops and other electronic devices must be silenced and remain out of sight for the duration of classes No makeup without a valid excuse One more thing Yes it will be on the test Everything will be on the test Don39t even bother asking
