hear he wants to look into quotevil artsquot They decide to try to save him Faustus calls Mephistopheles out of hell to ask him to serve Faustus Mephistopheles appears only because Faustus was cursing God Faustus asks for 24 years of service and Mephistopheles goes to ask Lucifer Wagner calls Robin the Clown to talk to him and PAGE 1 asks Robin to become his servant promising to teach Robin how to call up demons Faustus battles with his good and evil angels once Mephistopheles comes back to say Lucifer agrees Faustus agrees with the evil angel Lucifer decides that Faustus can have 24 years of service as long as he gives his soul away at the end of that time Faustus signs a contract in blood Inciting Action Faustus asks to have a wife but Mephistopheles refused He gives Faustus books of horns put on his head Faustus plays a prank on a horse courser by selling him a quotfakequot horse for 40 dollars When the man road the horse into water it turned into hay The horsecourser got mad and Faustus to satisfy his wife s craving for grapes The duchess who is pregnant gets the best grapes from Faustus Wagner nds Faustus students ad mentions that he believes Faustus will die soon because he is giving away all his stuff and holding a feast The students scholars and an old man try to talk Faustus into repenting and turning to God but Mephistopheles comes talk him out of it Faustus resigns the contract in blood to only worship Lucifer The scholars try to pray for him but Faustus sends them away Main Climax Faustus pleads with God to save him but Lucifer comes to take his soul Resolution OBSERVATIONS o Faustus likes to talk about himself in the third person 0 Faustus doesn t complete his SO 0 24 years is the most RANDOM number WHY My only answer to this is that because so much of the play is based off of religion and the Pentecostal religion was prevalent during the time in the Bible worship of God is dictated by the number 24 24 priests 24 elders with God s throne Etc 0 The horse that Faustus sells to the horsecourser COULD have stayed a horse if the person had simply listened to Faustus and not road the horse into the water So that prank had a likeliness to fail o Mephistopheles is the one who is actually doing all the work not Faustus so Faustus doesn t have any REAL powers 0 God doesn t actually say anything in the play He is just talked about Lucifer Satan DOES have lines in the play 0 There is a resolution to the play but it is not technically a good resolution PAGE 2
