Rebeka Broussard Dr Hebert EDTC 100 C November 1 2007 Philosophy of Education There is a saying that lllt s never too late or too soon to start learning This is what lifelong learning is to me You start teaching children things as soon as they are born whether you realize it are not Teachers play one to the biggest roles for children today They are with them more hours in a day then their parents are Children look up to them When in school teachers are not just teaching students academics but lifelong lessons as well They are mentors for their students Students are learning from their teachers and believe it or not teachers learn from them too That is why its never too late to learn because everyday students and teachers learn something new Teaching and learning are a cycle To be able to teach something you have to be able to learn something When a teacher teaches a lesson they do not always know everything about it before they teach it They as well have to go and learn about it before they can teach it to their students A teacher s commitment to their students is very important Teachers should have confidence in their students that they can do well in their class They should always praise them rather than put them down They should let them know when they are doing well and help them when they are struggling A student should be able to trust their teacher is all aspects Students should be able to confide in their teachers When students are having a problem whether it be academic or personal a teacher should always be there to help them Teachers can have the biggest impact on their students because of how much time students spend at school Teachers need to be students role models Even when teachers think their students are not watching them they are In some cases teachers are all that some students have to look up to Teachers should be a reflective practitioner They should be able to recognize what happens in the classroom as well as understand why and how it happens They should have reflective thinking in the classroom When a teacher shows that they do not know what goes on in the classroom it gives students the power to think they can do whatever they want and get away with it Teachers should show that they care about what is going on in the classroom When they do this it helps students to be able to learn better because they know their teachers care about them When teachers do not care about theirjob or the students they students get the impression that they should not have to care about learning anything because their teachers do not care Technology is an important role in teaching today Technology is always around us everywhere we go and it should be in the classroom as well Teachers should incorporate technology in every subject in some kind of way This helps keep the students focused because they have something that they use everyday part of the lesson Students will be more willing to participate in the lessons when technology is involved Technology is always changing so teachers should be updated with technology all the time Sometimes technology is not always the most reliable source for a lesson There could be technical problems when it comes time to give a lecture so teachers should always have a backup plan when they will be using some kind of technology resource
