Review of Biblical Readings The bible was written over a 1500 year span 0 They used the best knowledge and science that they had during that time which is not the same knowledge and science that we have today 0 Scholars and everyday people should not try and t what the bible says in a literal context of today because society science and mankind are different Instead think of the bible in the age of when it was written what was society like then and how did it t in Use the bible s ideas and theology but make it make sense in today39s world DON39T TAKKE THE BIBLE OUT OF CONTEXT BECAUSE IT BECOMES DISTORTED There were not feminist in the bible 0 That was not a word yet therefore women could not have been feminists because it was not in the consciousness What does it mean to be holy 0 Class answers To be set apart We cannot be holy today Holy is a negative word now holier than thou God is holy because he is perfect and man cannot be perfect therefore man cannot be holy Religious people are holy when they keep to their religious practices 0 What is sin today 0 Class answers It is based upon the person Sin is evolving to be when you infringe on another person39s rights Not abiding by the morals of the bible and of the laws set in place today o It was believed that not all of Paul39s letters were written by Paul but by his disciples too 0 There are two different genealogies of Christ Taking Back God 0 Chapter One 0 Women are claiming their religious lives and not allowing only men to de ne it for them 0 4 Goals page 9 Women want to see women in leadership roles within the church Women want to see themselves represented in the wording used MaleFemale references 0 Universal language Religious recognition that their bodies are normal and not weird 0 No longer thought of as defective men 0 This idea that women are not normal stemmed from the religious view to the scienti c view of the female anatomy Women want to be recognized as people in the image of the divine o What does God look like God has little physical description in the bible other than quotman is created in the likeness of Godquot which can be interpreted many ways 0 They could be talking about his physical body 0 His character which Is described in great detail throughout the bible The fact that they can live eternally in heaven Man attached a gender and a physical description to God 0 Muslims and Jews have strict rules about not drawing or attaching a physical description to God 0 Every race and country has a picture of God that looks like them They might have assigned God a male gender because there may not have been a gender neutral word back then like we havetoday
