December 2nd meet in ENGZ 302 Group 7 900920 Group 6 925945 Group 5 9501010 Thursday December 4 meet in CSB 232 Group 4 900920 Group 3 925945 Group 2 9501010 Group 1 10151035 Monday November 17 The nal presentation schedule has been posted Only one group volunteered to present on the rst day Other than this group the presentation order is the reverse order from which the proposal presentations were presented 80 Group 10 goes second Group 9 goes third and so on The schedule requires that one day have four presentations I have set the schedule so that this occurs on the last day however since this will run over our class time l have reserved the Computer Science Colloquium room CSB 232 for the last day of class Thursday December 4th Tuesday November 25th meet in ENGZ 302 Group 8 900920 Group 10 925945 Group 9 9501010 Tuesday December 2quotd meet in ENGZ 302 Group 7 900920 Group 6 925945 Group 5 9501010 Thursday December 4 meet in CSB 232 Group 4 900920 Group 3 925945 Group 2 9501010 Group 1 10151035 Final report due Monday December 8th by 500pm Monday November 10 As of 4pm today no roup has volunteered to present their papers on Tuesday November 25 As you recall from the previous announcement the majority of the groups who responded to the vote for presentation dates selected the first scenario which has the presentations beginning on Tuesday November 25th and continuing after the Thanksgiving break on Tuesday December 2nd and Thursday December 4 On Wednesday this week November 12th I will post the presentation schedule If no groups volunteer to present on the rst day the schedule will simply be in the reverse order in which the proposal presentations were given If any groups volunteer to go on the rst day they will be scheduled on a rst come rst served basis Tuesday November 4 From the feedback that l have received so far it appears that the majority of you would prefer to begin the nal presentations on the Tuesday before the Thanksgiving break Scenario 1 begin on Tuesday November 25th As I mentioned before we ll need to have 3 presentationsday with one of the days squeezing in a fourth group Now the question becomes in what order will we proceed First I will ask if we have any groups that would volunteer to present on the rst dayif so I ll arrange them on a rst come rst served basis for Tuesday November 25th The remainder of the groups will be ordered in the reverse order of the proposal presentation schedule ie Group 10 goes first Group 1 would go last You have until next Monday Nov 10th to decide if your group wants to go on the rst day after next Monday I will post the nal presentation schedule Wednesday October 29 CHANGE IN DATES ON SYLLABUS Draft of Final Report due Monday November 17th by 500pm Final Report due Monday December 8th by 500pm I am making up the nal presentation schedule now and I would like some feedback from you regarding how everyone would like to see it done I m allotting each group 20 minutes for the presentation which means that realistically it will take three days for all the groups to give their presentations Consider the following scenarios and send me your vote and we ll see how things go Personally I would prefer scenario 1 as long as the groups 1 2 amp 3 don t feel that this puts them at a disadvantage as far as time to prepare is concerned Scenario 1 Presentations begin at class time on Tuesday Nov 25th and continue after Thanksgiving break on Tuesday Dec 2nd and Thursday Dec 4 Scenario 2 Presentations begin at class time on Tuesday Dec 2quot continue Thursday Dec 4th with the nal day of presentations being Tuesday Dec 9 This last day would be during the nal exam period setup for this class which is 700am950am We ll need to have four presentations on the last day which will total 95 minutes of time so we wouldn t have to start until 815am on the 9 Scenario 3 Presentations begin at class time on Tuesday Dec 2quot continue Thursday Dec 4th with the nal day of presentations being Tuesday Dec 9th however instead of using the regular classroom I ll see if I can reserve the CS Colloquium room CSB 232 and we can use regular class time hours of 900101 5 Thursday October 23 I finally nished preparing the results of the proposal presentations As I mentioned in the previous announcementsthey went well and as a result every group received high scores You can stop by my office next week and pickup a copy of the score sheet for your group We made some comments to each group Most of the comments were directed towards some area that you need to be sure to include in your nal report or were directed to giving you some information that might you may or may not want to pursue for your nal report Some general comments to all groups follow 1 when giving your presentations don t put too much information on each slide so that it becomes hard to read 2 don t read the slidesin other words the slide should be a summary of what you are saying and not include everything that you are going to say You now have roughly 1 month before nal presentations begin If any groups would like to have a dry run through their nal presentation before the actual presentation please get in touch with me and I ll get us a room reserved in the afternoon where you can practice it and get some feedback I would like groups 1 3 7 and 9 to email me a copy oftheir proposal presentation slides All l have from these four groups is a hardcopy Tuesday October 7 The presentations all went quite well I think that everyone has a pretty good idea of what it is they would like to accomplish with their projects or at least you were good at convincing us you have a good idea Now the focus shifts to actually doing the research and the work that you have proposed lf Orkun email alatascsucfedu or myself email marklcsucfedu can be ofany help to you during the research phase of your project don t hesitate to contact us We will go over the proposals as quickly as possible so that you can get some feedback on your work I will let you know via this page when this will be done and you can stop by to pickup the comments I still need soft copies of the proposal presentations from the following groups email is fine on this Group 1 Dean Group 3 Jhon Matt Tom Group 4 Russell Chad Dana Susanne Group 6 Micah Marco Group 7 Heath Keya Nirav Group 9 William Brian Remember the written portion ofthe proposal is due on Tuesday October 7th by 500pm Wednesday September 24 Proposal presentations are next week Groups 1 through 5 present on Tuesday and groups 6 through 10 present on Thursday See the schedule for the details Grading criteria for the presentation proposals can be seen on the course web page Remember attendance is required for the proposal presentations A hardcopy and an electronic copy of your presentation slides should be submitted on the day of your group presentation The TA for the course Mr Orkun Alatas will attend the class for the proposal presentations He will be able to provide us with additional feedback for the projects There seems to be some confusion about what is due for the proposals There are two parts in total see the course syllabus the presentations that you will be giving next week and the written version of the proposal The written version follows the same basic guidelines as the final report however the written proposal will obviously be much lighter since you have not done all that much research at this point in time Therefore many ofthe sections will contain maybe only a sentence or two indicating that either you haven t done anything in this area yet or maybe indicating what you intend to do Basically the written version of the proposal will mirror your presentation rather closely Due to the confusion mentioned above I ll make the due date for the written part ofthe proposal Tuesday October 7th by 500pm Turn them in at my of ce 001 211 Good Luck with your presentationsll Tuesday September 16 Don t forget to email me your project title as soon as you have identified your area The presentation schedule for the proposal presentations is now posted I will post a copy of the grading criteria for the proposals both the presentation and written parts later this week so you can identify what I m looking for Don t forgetattendance is required for both days of the proposal presentations l ll remind you again as the date draws near Thursday September 11 As of 203pm today only two people have yet to identify their groups At this point we will operate with the assumption that they will be working individually ifthis changes later I ll update the group list Please identify your topics and send them to me as soon as possible Thursday September 4 As soon as all the groups are nalized I will put the proposal presentation schedule on the webpage We ll look toward the end of this month to begin the presentations until that time we will not be meeting as a class but please feel free to stop by my of ce at any time or send email if you have questions Thursday September 4 As of 230pm today the students listed below have not yet identified their groups If you don t send me an email indicating your group members I ll be forced to assign groups Russell Colbert V lliam Feldmeier Saurau Sharma Brian V lliams Tuesday September 2 Please identify your group and let me know via email marklcsucfedu by late Wednesday so that I can prepare the schedule and discuss it on Thursday Tuesday September 2 On Thursday Sept 4th I will go overthe guidelines forthe proposal and the proposal presentation
