Yes, in the past I have conducted research assignments. I believe I began researching in elementary school with an encyclopedia and from there moved onto books, journals, articles, and newspaper in both web and print. In the beginning, I researched simple things such as animals and then I graduated to bigger and better things by researching topics of controversy. I’ve done theoretical and practical research in which I have cited in MLA and APA. I have used qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods of research. I did this type of research because they were assigned to me in my classes. I think that one of the harder challenges I face when I do a research assignment is staying on task during theoretical research assignments. For the most part, theoretical research seems like a very open topic to me that can be taken in many different directions. I often want to keep talking and I sometimes veer completely from the topic I was on or I feel that I’m repeating myself. Other challenges always include citations in the essay and during the works cited. I don’t always find the information needed for my article automatically and I worry that I’m citing incorrectly. From all of the research projects I have done, I’ve realized how much information I do not have and I get a better understanding of how much information there is on even the most detailed of subjects. Depending on the issue or topic, I do consider things in a different manner. For instance, I once did a research assignment on coyotes, an animal that is common in my home town but an animal I did not often encounter. After my research, I thought less of coyotes as strange wild creatures but more of a part of my habitat. Now and in the future I’d hope to this project well. I’d like to have as much information as I could and produce it in a clear concise manner. I would like to obtain my information from credible sources that keep the information easy to pick out and understand. Lastly, I suppose I’d try to make the essay as flawless as I can. Five areas of human activity I would like to do research on is some type of sports team, an Amish community, a deaf community, a party and an extreme adventurer group such as cliff jumping. I’d like to research these areas because I think the results would be so interesting and different from most research results. I think that some obstacles would include being accepted into these groups for research purposes, obtaining viable information and finding references for this information.
