Brittany Young January 20 2015 TCF 544 Indie Cinema amp Film Festivals The process of making a movie based on the documentary Seduced amp Abandoned o The more things attached to a film the higher the chances of the film being made eg director James Toback actor Alec Baldwin amp actress Neve Campbell 0 Financiers at Cannes tell Baldwin amp Toback that in order to make the film they needed more marketable names such as Chastain Portman and Kunis o Toback amp Baldwin had an estimated budget of 2025M but financiers often offered 4 5M o Financiers also told them that genre played a large role in whether the movie was worth producing the big question is will it sell 0 Location was also a big deal Toback and Baldwin pitched a film set in Iraq and financiers said it would be cheaper to be made in the US 0 Toback amp Baldwin were also looking for incentives such as government funding to distribute their film they were also in search of money for scripts print amp advertising presales basically pitching an idea since the movie had not been made 0 They spoke with foreign financiers such as Taki Avi Lerner Larry Herbert amp Neal Schneider amp Brett Ratner o Avi Lerner believes the value of the lm festival is to nd projects to nance he s focused on the market and only the market 0 Thierry Fremaux is the director of the Canne lm festival he stated the festival is subsidized by the market and the festival cannot be sustained without the market advertising distribution amp marketing
