SylvainJean 1 Gabrielle Sylvain Jean Anthropology 104H Paper Project 8 December 2010 Kenyan ethnic diversity has many cultures tied into it It has a little bit of African Asian and European During my research cam e a lot ofthings in the Kenyan culture that are new and intriguing My interview with my informant was much Americanized The only part of his life that still went back to his roots was his home cooked meals In my interview I was informed that Kenyan food was classic and did not have extra spices that could only be found in the origin to cook it Seeing as Maurice was born in the US his answers were not that eccentric to me The great thing however is that my informant has been to Kenya and has experienced the life there He had a lot to say about the main city Nairobi He mentioned his first time going to Kenya he noticed many things such as office buildings farmers and small marketplaces Maurice expressed how much he had to learn when he went and how the eating rituals were different from what he was used to At the eating table is where you washed your hands a special beverage was drank he could not remember the name before the meal and after the meal was over the hostess went around the table pouring drinks My informant was not sure what kinship was therefore a part of my interview was explaining what it was After explaining what it was my informant explained to me that because ofthe location where his nuclear family lives in comparison to the rest of his family is SylvainJean I 2 far Not only does his father s family live in Kenya for the most part but his mother s side lives in many different states across the US He stated that only two people from his mom s family lived in Massachusetts This causes a lot of confusion during holidays and sometimes a lack of gathering In conclusion my paper project was tied together in a PowerPoint presentation because I feel like it would be the best way to represent the information that I received It was surely not enough to write a full paper on because my informant only knew so much however he did assist me and lead me in the right direction
