Student to Student Conversations amp Research to Share with Others Below please have any conversations that you wish to have Conver ation between students do NOT belong in the paperanalysis and are not graded though the honor code still applies i feel like the paper should be a little bit more succinct and to the point because we don39t want the person reading the paper to get bored i39ve tried to cut out some small bits here and there but could we all work together on shortening some sentences and cutting out some unnecessary information while still capitalizing on the important points i think that will really set our paper apart remember we have to be done by this thursday at 8am Alright so if we all read through it at least once and make some grammatical changes I think we should do well I went through and also deleted some redundant sentences any other ideas Also do we feel confident that we don39t get our client mixed up i found one instance and changed it but I may have misread some things Finally we refer to kelley as quotKelleyquot quotKelley Business Schoolquot quotThe Kelley School of Businessquot and the quotBusiness Schoolquot I feel like we should come up with one term we agree on and go with it Any opinions I agree I think quotKelley School of Businessquot sounds the best Can everyone see the second chart But I can39tI I wonder whether it39s the problem of my computer or the chart If we can39t see itI we should make another one I can39t view the second chart gtgt I don39t see any hint ofthe second chart Is anybody making this chart thing again or are we just not using it Just curious Anvbodv please answer Final Paper Outline Below create the basic structure and flow of your paper in terms of the topics you want to address Tip from Joanna To stay on schedule and on taskI the outline should probably be finalized by and not changed after Wednesday the gm The paper should probably be fully written by Sunday the 22n d and onlv editorial changes made after that time The Outline 1 Introduction 1 The Kelley School IT department has a good method for using information technoloqv Some of the classes in the Kellev School of Business use computer databases as a source and use papers as handouts for students that need to be purchased However planning in advance how to deve0p the information technoloqv svstem in the Kelley School of Business has always been a huge issue The development of IT should help both the professors39 and the students39 teaching and learning experiencesI as well as to gain a competitive advantage among other business schools The introduction should state the current situation of the Kelley School IT department brieflv and other competitive schools Introduce the topic of Ebooks and Green IT Z Ebooks 1 E books39 role and the current situation of the use of ebooks 2 Five forces analysis among the use of ebooks in Kelley School of Business 3 A clearly stated shortterm and longterm strategy about the usage of ebooks in Kelley School of Business 4 Summary of how Kelley School39s IT department plans on using ebooks and what factors should be paid more attention 3 Green IT strategy 1 What Green IT is environment friendly Gain competitive advantages analvsis Green IT according to the competitive advantages 3 What the IT department should do Research more and pay hiqh attention to reduce costs Some Principles 4 Shortterm and longterm strategies about Green IT Shortterm strategies Cost minimization longterm strategies Sustainability 5 Must also take into consideration the other side of the argument 6 This would include cost for the school and students alike and the effects that it may have on the planet A strateqv for Green IT in the shortrun is to use less resources by finding method how to maximize the use of software application instead of papers For the longrun Green IT should find a concrete Dattern how to aDDIV this quotdreen methodquot as a new culture as the old one 4 Additional ideas and t0pics such as information securitv and privaCy 5 Conclusion 1 the important tips of the development of the IT systems according to the previous analysis 2 Summary of the strategy plan in both longiterm and shortiterm Tech Services Case Final Paper Place the actual writeiup of your paper for Tech Services below You may choose to remove text to the cutting room floor the last section of this document Please use the template given Remember you are a team your ethics and honesty in contributing to this analysis will make your team stronger and better The Kelley School of Business has the opportunity to be at the forefront of business education by staying up to date with cutting edge technology The Kelley School39s IT Department has developed many innovative methods of using information technology and how to apply these methods For example many classes in the Kelley School have used computer databases as sources for class work clicker systems in lectures blogs Google Docs Market Live Simulations chat rooms and other interactive methods of teaching As IT continues to evolve planning for the future in the Kelley School is becoming increasingly critical It is imperative that it keeps up with and advances its information technology Developing a future plan for the Kelley School39s IT will aid the teaching methods of professors and the learning efficiency of students IT is instrumental in gaining a competitive advantage over other business schools nationally and internationally It is important for Tech Services to build its competitive advantage through the implementation ofGreen IT while making wise decisions about the application of technology such as ebooks The use of ebooks has the potential to introduce and represent the business school into a whole new dimension of learning experiences not to mention make it a leading pioneer in the world of business and learning Ebooks have become a hot topic in most universities especially in the IT service departments Introducing new methods of preserving resources is a huge opportunity that has much potential Ebooks also known as electronic books are the digital media equivalent of printed books and offer many benefits As a result university officials are starting to look into purchasing ebooks for student usage There are numerous advantages that this new technology could bring beyond the obvious savings of both paper and energy Ebooks will benefit students and spare them the hassle of carrying around heavy textbooks to class However the implementation of ebooks is by no means simple Problems such as affordability for students will surface and solutions will be needed Although ebook readers have gone down in price the cheapest model costs 149 Ingram This raises concerns for students who will have to buy the ereaders A survey of Kelley students showed that approximately 27 of Kelley students would buy ereaders if they were discounted from their regularly listed prices this makes the overall cost even cheaper than the cost of current textbooks supplied by the university Chart 1 In total approximately 40 of Kelley Students answered that they would buy ereaders and ebooks rather than printed textbooks A significant factor in determining whether the implementation of ereaders and ebooks would be a good decision or not is the effect that it will have on both the inside and outside of Kelley Porter39s Five Forces Analysis as shown in the chart below to the right provides a useful blueprint for evaluating the viability of implementing ebooks in Kelley Weurd MW the ebook 5 verv nrgn students rnav oreter tradrtronar book because they fee that they serve as better studvrhg too s as shown in Chart 1 In addition to the aforementioned things the Kelley School would have to offer incentives to encourage students to keep using ebooks Hardware discounts or a lowcost for downloading ebooks can serve as incentives These incentives will help ease the introduction of ebooks into the Kelley School allowing Kelley to become a pioneer in this area of technology application With a significant amount of students interested in ebooks and some tangible benefits from its implementation the Kelley School should strongly consider utilizing them In the shortterm perspective carefully utilizing ebooks in certain classes would give Tech Services an idea of whether the program is viable or not If the students are able to utilize their readers effectively then a largescale implementation should take place A longterm ebook program should include a maintenance and repair program software trouble shooting technical support discounted program downloads and partnerships with textbook suppliers to offer a resell program Another longterm goal would be the removal of paper textbooks from Kelley39s classrooms By implementing ebooks into the curriculum not only would things be more manageable and technological but Kelley would also be helping in the reduction of environmental harm winning a good reputation among the public As the first step Tech Services at Indiana University should critically examine how to provide ebooks to students at a reasonable price and then offer options to select classes and professors after discussing the process and usage of these ebooks to the students It should also be concerned about whether or not the costmanagement and tech support for the new technologies are supported well enough to sustain its effectiveness Both professors and students will need to be thoroughly educated on the usage and implementation of ebooks before Kelley can consider incorporating them into the learning system With the proper support and the costmanagement ebooks can be a dynamic and functional part of the Kelley environment Besides ebooks Green IT is another way to develop the future of Kelley39s IT system Green IT is defined as the use of environmentally friendly hardware and efficient usage practices it is the study and practice of designing manufacturing using and disposing computers servers and associated subsystems such as monitors printers storage devices and networking and communications systems efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on the environment Murugesan One such example of implementing Green IT would be using copiers with Energy Star certificates By implementing practices that conserve resources such as energy and paper Kelley will inevitably save money in the long run allowing it to concentrate funds on other expenditures such as other higher technologies or to assist organizations within the business school By reducing energy consumption costs will be lowered throughout the organization Additionally students are now beginning to judge schools based on how environmentally friendly each campus is By distinguishing itself as a quotgreen schoolquot Kelley can offer additional incentives to students looking for environmentally conscious schools A fullscale Green IT program would make Kelley unique and distinguishable from other business schools that have not implemented a Green IT program once again giving Kelley a firstmover advantage The Indiana University IT department should establish strategies to reach short and long term goals in the areas of sustainability research by specifically focusing on reducing costs and boosting efficiency Currently businesses that have implemented Green IT such as Apple have gained not only a strategic advantage but also a good reputation for their green efforts Companies like Apple could be researched and modeled by IU by using key success components of their strategies and applying them to the IT department here at Indiana University The end result of these efforts will be lower end costs greater overall efficiency and give Kelley a good reputation as a school that uses green technology and understands the purpose of it A strategy for Green IT in the shortrun is to use fewer resources by finding a method that maximizes the use of software application instead of conventional paper handouts This is efficient and easy because Kelley focuses on making use of technology and practices green technology Kelley should also be conscientious when purchasing any new items for the school It should try to buy items that are made from recycled materials In the long run Green IT should find a concrete pattern of how to apply this quotGreen Methodquot as a new culture to replace the old one An important part of this strategy is to make Green IT a concept acceptable to everyone as soon as possible this can be achieved by setting up additional computer labs and consulting groups to encourage students to learn more about how to use the available technologies and resources efficiently Furthermore workshops can be implemented to help educate Indiana University students about Green initiatives in regards to the business world This will benefit the Indiana University students greatly resulting in a better appearance of the Kelley School of Business An effective information security system should include policies security products technologies and procedures that protect information and information systems Current implementations include firewall and virus detection software but more advanced and efficient procedures are needed as the Kelley School grows and evolves its technology systems According to wwwesecuritycom with new IT attacks from worms which are continuously evolving malware is becoming the number one threat to computers A new bot called SNINFS has been programmed to target computers through social networking sites Given the volume of students accessing Twitter and Facebook Tech Services needs to be aware of this new malware and must be prepared to counter act them It is crucial that the Kelley school also enforces its information security system if it is to depend on information technology as a main tool for teaching business education In order to maintain its status as a wellrespected business school Kelley needs to keep up with its advanced information technology concepts and products In addition Kelley needs a defined plan in order to be a pioneer in offering this advanced IT system to others The shortterm and longterm plans outlined by our team will succeed in providing advanced technology products to Indiana University staff and students as well as maximizing the efficiency of using the current IT resources First the shortterm plan will make the business school an overall better experience for its students which will eventually carry over for several years to come This plan will also give Kelley the ability to pace itself while simultaneously preparing for its longterm goal Finally the longterm plan is to be the leader as a top business school and strengthen its reputation as an advanced Green business school Following our team39s plan will guide the Kelley School of Business in optimizing its current strengths as a reputable school and capitalize on its future opportunity to lead its field in Green technology innovation Citations Place anv citations below Doctorow Cow Februarv 12 2004 lecture and lab Meanwhile other competitive schools in assertion will use the same method for students that should buy the materials because This system has been going for a long time and it is found as the right way 1 Introduction 1 the current situation about Kelley School IT department and other competitive schools 2 Eibook 1 It is introduced for the students to use Eibook that is a handout materials and other sources that posted in the data or internet instead of papers The current situation of using Eibook is still not familiar because people tend to use paper stuff for many reasons 2 Five force analysis among the use of eibook in Kelley School of Business is durable less resources less negative physical externalities not unaffordable and comforting 3 The use of Eibook in Kelley School should be supported more without decreasing the paper one as not many people prefer it Yet the use of either of these two methods should not be insisted The students however should have the right to choose which one they want to use 4 The Kelley School can put more attention in developing the Eibook since this method is new and quite sophisticated This method could someday benefits both students who like it and the Kelley School if it is succeeded 3 Green IT strategy 1 Green IT is the method of using less resources such as papers and other limited and costly matters in maximizing the using of technology 2 Green IT helps the Kelley School of Business to reduce unnecessary costs and try to make IT a friendly environment 3 The IT department should do research more put high attention to reduce costs and make technology as environment friendly It is imperatively recommended since this could benefit Kelley School for longiterm 4 The IT department should consider Kelley students39 convenience too Without considering students efficient Green IT programs can not exist 4 Technology is developing and become complicated nowadays Therefore it is important as well to follow suit the technology with the security and privacy of its data that owns by individuals If this is fall behind far from the fastforward technology nowadays the using of green IT will be decreasing because it cannot be trusted 5 Conclusion 1 According to the previous analysis it is still not satisfying for the surveys of using of Eibook many people don t agree of using that due to many reasons One important tip is that the Green IT should do the research well for this after everything is confirmed the Green IT should try to get more attention and convince the students to use EiBooks With using these helpful devices there is an immediate change to our environment especially pertaining to the issues of global warming The number of trees being cut down will diminish which is one of the first steps in the right direction Hopefully with the amount of trees currently standing and that number being on the rise the amount of C02 in the air will also be cut down which is yet another step to protect the environment 1 The introduction should briefly state the current situation about Kelley School IT department and other competitive schools Introduce the topic of Ebook and Green IT 2 Ebook39s role and the current use of ebooks in Kelley Five force analysis concerning the use of ebooks in Kelley A clearly stated shortterm and longterm strategy about the use of ebook in Kelley School Summary of how should Kelley School39s IT department plan on the use of ebook and what should be pay more attention to What is Green IT definition examples How it helps the Kelley School of Business What should the IT department do A shortterm and longterm strategy about the Green IT system Disadvantages Must also take into consideration the other half This would include cost for the school and students alike and the effects that it may have one the planet 1 The important tips of the development of the IT systems according to the previous analysis 2 Summary of the strategy plan in both longterm and shortterm periods To make ebooks more ecofriendly Indiana University can implement harsh rules such as printing less making paper more costly reducing the printing quota and putting rules on the usage of energy on ebooks Such practices would contribute to our environmental society here on campus by reducing the large amount of paper waste that most see on a daytoday basis
