Mail email@example.com HMRCUniform Tax Relief for Healthcare Workers Healthcare professionals and other healthcare workers are reminded to claim tax relief for annual registration and/or subblockedion fees. A survey conducted the previous year showed that 75 per cent of healthcare workers failed to file claims. Majority of workers in the healthcare sector are unaware of this privilege thus they are paying more tax than they should be. The HM Revenue Customs allows tax relief for healthcare workers amounting to 20% of the annual registration fees. Under the regulations set by the HMRC, individuals who are required to pay membership or subblockedion fees to be able to work in their chose career field may claim tax rebate. This applies to all basic rate UK taxpayers who are in the healthcare sector, such as nurses and midwives of all grades. Accredited professional bodies or unions include NMC, RCN, GMC, UNISON, and many more. Aside from professional membership fees, there are other work related expenses that can be eligible for tax rebate claims. If your employer requires you to wear a prescribed uniform or protective gear, you can file a uniform tax rebate. This tax relief is intended to cover costs for the upkeep and laundry of your uniform. In order to be eligible for this tax claim, your occupation must specifically require you to wear a uniform, you personally pay for its laundry and upkeep, and your employer does not provide cleaning tickets or laundry facilities. You can claim up to £150 in tax rebate through uniform tax relief for healthcare workers. The HMRC also provides allowance for the purchase of shoes and tights for work. Healthcare workers are entitled to an annual tax relief of £12 for shoes and £6 for tights/stockings. However, tax rebate may not be awarded if your employer provides these items or has reimbursed your expenses. Tax relief for healthcare workers is retroactive, meaning you could claim back for the past 4 years. So even if you have changed employer or are not anymore in the healthcare sector, you could still claim back on overpaid taxes. Normally, the HMRC would not inform taxpayers about overpaid taxes so it is every taxpayer’s responsibility to be proactive. Every healthcare worker should realize their eligibility for such privileges and start the process of claiming it back. Set the wheels in motion by contacting your local HMRC.
