Ah Apples! Ah apples! i enjoy their crunch. I enjoy their tang. I enjoy how refreshing they are. To me they are a great food: lovely to look at , healthy for the entire body , delicious by themselves or perhaps in dishes. I think Benjamin Franklin was proper when he said, "an apple a day maintains the doctor away." Here's a small list of a few of the more popular apples and their characteristics: Fuji--red, sweet, slightly crisp. Great eating the apple company. Gala--red, a bit sour. Great eating the apple company. Jonathan--red, crunchy consistency , sweet-tart flavor that holds up in cooking food. Great eating the apple company. Flavor holds up in cooking. Golden Delicious--yellow, more tart compared to Red Delicious, not too crunchy. REddish Delicious--red, sweet together with barely a hint of tartness, mealy consistency. Doesn't hold up as well well as a cooking food apple. Granny Smith--green, crunchy, tart, keeps its shape properly. Excellent for pies, crumbles, and crisps. One of the best breakfast recipes is definitely an oatmeal for the slow cooker. Use either Jonathan or Gala oatmeal. First mix with each other all the ingredients inside a greased slow cooker. Protect and cook about Low for 5-6 hours. Serve together with milk or frozen treats. The ingredients are: two cups milk, two TBSP. Honey, 1 TBSP. Butter (no substitute!), 1/4 tsp. Salt, 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon, 1 mug dry old-fashioned oats, 1 cup cut apples, 1/2 mug chopped walnuts, two TBSP. Brown glucose. I always add some additional apples myself--I exactly like it to be apple heavy ! I recently observed an episode of Alton Brown's "Good takes." On it Alton made an apple cake using a tart pan. I thought that was an unusual choice of pan, however it seemed to work effectively. The other thing this individual did that I found interesting was that he used four different types of apples (Granny smith , Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Golden Delicious). For whatever reason it never struck me to use a variety of oatmeal. It was a very useful episode, and I will certainly use his ideas. You might want to go onto foods Network and find their recipe if you're will make an apple cake for the holidays. (it's known as a Super Apple cake.) Oh, I almost forgot to share this kind of with you, he used a pie bird so that the air might escape and there couldn't survive empty space involving the crust and the location where the apples begin. Extremely nifty! Thinking back again , I was very lucky to grow up within the Adirondack mountains where I had an the apple company tree right down the trail from my house. It absolutely was on the neighbor's property , but all had been welcomed to come and pick the apples. I'm able to remember climbing that tree and consuming apples till i used to be full...I suspect that is where my own love of oatmeal began, and it happens to me that I never did thank our own neighbor for the variety of apples that filled my belly through the years. Oh well, that is the way it is when you're a kid...you're in the moment enjoying the crunch! alton brown weight loss
