Ah Apples! Ah apples! i love their crunch. I love their tang. I love how refreshing they are. To me they are an ideal food: lovely to look at , healthy for the entire body , delicious by themselves or in dishes. I think Benjamin Franklin was correct when he said, "a great apple a day keeps the doctor away." Here's a small list of some of the more popular apples and their characteristics: Fuji--red, sweet, slightly crisp. Great eating apple company. Gala--red, a bit sour. Great eating apple company. Jonathan--red, crunchy consistency , sweet-tart flavor which holds up in cooking food. Great eating apple company. Flavor holds up in cooking. Golden Delicious--yellow, more tart than the Red Delicious, not really too crunchy. REd-colored Delicious--red, sweet with barely a hint of tartness, mealy consistency. Doesn't hold up too well as a cooking food apple. Granny Smith--green, crunchy, tart, keeps its shape well. Excellent for pies, crumbles, and crisps. One of the best breakfast recipes is an oatmeal for the crock pot. Use either Jonathan or Gala oatmeal. First mix collectively all the ingredients in the greased slow cooker. Cover and cook about Low for 5-6 hours. Serve with milk or ice cream. The ingredients are: two cups milk, two TBSP. Honey, one TBSP. Butter (simply no substitute!), 1/4 tsp of. Salt, 1/2 tsp of. Cinnamon, 1 pot dry old- fashioned oats, 1 cup cut apples, 1/2 pot chopped walnuts, two TBSP. Brown sugars. I always add some additional apples myself--I the same as it to be apple weighty ! I recently watched an episode of Alton Brown's "Good takes." On it Alton produced an apple cake using a tart pan. I thought that was a silly choice of pan, however it seemed to work really well. The other thing he or she did that I discovered interesting was which he used four different types of apples (Granny cruz , Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Golden Delicious). For whatever reason it never occurred to me to use a variety of oatmeal. It was a very educational episode, and I will certainly use his suggestions. You might want to go onto meals Network and find their recipe if you're going to make an apple cake for the holidays. (it's called a Super Apple cake.) Oh, I nearly forgot to share this kind of with you, he employed a pie bird so that the air can escape and there wouldn't be empty space between your crust and the location where the apples begin. Very nifty! Thinking again , I was very privileged to grow up in the Adirondack mountains exactly where I had an apple company tree right down the road from my house. It absolutely was on the neighbor's house , but all have been welcomed to come and pick the apples. I can remember climbing which tree and eating apples till i used to be full...I believe that is where my love of oatmeal began, and it happens to me that I by no means did thank our own neighbor for the variety of apples which filled my stomach through the years. Oh well, this is the way it is when you're a kid...you're in the minute enjoying the crunch! alton brown weight loss
