Ah Apples! Ah apples! i love their crunch. I love their tang. I love how refreshing they may be. To me they are a perfect food: lovely to consider , healthy for the body , delicious by themselves or perhaps in dishes. I think Benjamin Franklin was proper when he said, "a good apple a day keeps the doctor away." Here's a small list of a few of the more popular apples and their characteristics: Fuji--red, sweet, slightly sharp. Great eating apple company. Gala--red, a bit tart. Great eating apple company. Jonathan--red, crunchy texture , sweet-tart flavor that holds up in food preparation. Great eating apple company. Flavor holds up in cooking. Golden Delicious--yellow, more tart compared to Red Delicious, not really too crunchy. REddish Delicious--red, sweet together with barely a hint regarding tartness, mealy texture. Doesn't hold up as well well as a food preparation apple. Granny Smith--green, crunchy, tart, retains its shape well. Excellent for pies, crumbles, and crisps. One of the best breakfast recipes can be an oatmeal for the slow cooker. Use either Jonathan or Gala apples. First mix with each other all the ingredients in the greased slow cooker. Cover and cook about Low for 5-6 hours. Serve together with milk or frozen treats. The ingredients are: two cups milk, two TBSP. Honey, 1 TBSP. Butter (simply no substitute!), 1/4 teaspoon. Salt, 1/2 teaspoon. Cinnamon, 1 cup dry old-fashioned oats, 1 cup cut apples, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, two TBSP. Brown sugars. I always add some additional apples myself--I the same as it to be apple large ! I recently watched an episode of Alton Brown's "Good eats." On it Alton made an apple quiche using a tart skillet. I thought that was a unique choice of pan, but it seemed to work really well. The other thing he or she did that I identified interesting was he used four different types of apples (Granny cruz , Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Golden Delicious). For some reason it never struck me to use a variety of apples. It was a very educational episode, and I will surely use his suggestions. You might want to go onto foods Network and find his / her recipe if you're going to make an apple quiche for the holidays. (it's called a Super Apple quiche.) Oh, I practically forgot to share this kind of with you, he utilized a pie fowl so that the air could escape and there couldn't survive empty space between your crust and the location where the apples begin. REally nifty! Thinking back again , I was very fortunate to grow up in the Adirondack mountains exactly where I had an apple company tree right down the trail from my house. It absolutely was on the neighbor's property , but all were welcomed to come and pick the apples. I will remember climbing that tree and ingesting apples till i used to be full...I believe that is where my own love of apples began, and it takes place to me that I by no means did thank our own neighbor for the variety of apples that filled my belly through the years. Oh well, this is the way it is when you are a kid...you're in the minute enjoying the crunch! alton brown weight loss
