UBC has been very unfair with exam schedules. Lots of construction going on- and they rebuilt the bookstore to make it look more appealing in order to attract students and take more of their money. Honestly, the tuition we pay doesn't seem to be worth the experiencequality. It's obvious that UBC is a business more than an educational institution. ...Continue reading

I love UBC at times. Most buildings in the northern part of campus are old and decaying which most campus tours will bring you through, don't let this fool you. Everything around grades at this school is designed to stress students out. The living life is horrible when it rains more than 25 days a months and UBC has no rain shelter. Also this school is hard and the first semster is stressful with not a single break and christmas break is just 10 days. That said, the Wifi on campus can be pretty good and some staff/faculty are pretty nice. Good option is limited in terms of gluten free (eg gluten free dish but they serve it on pasta )Finally 3week exam season on top of 8weeks of midterm exams is harsh. Cut down final exam season to emancipate us ...Continue reading

Seriously with all the construction why not build some rain shelters when it can rain 25+days a month and not impractical embellishments. If you enjoy being a number, 200-300 people in your class and profs who won't even look at you in the hall... this school is for you. ...Continue reading

Come to UBC if you like seeing more construction workers than students. The food is also expensive, I already pay a lot for my tuition and a box of cold sushi with about 5 pieces for 8 dollars is a huge rip off. DONE with this place after not one day of break from work during the school year and yet the elusive 95 % is still not achievableThe lack of real holidays is concerning as you are perpetually overworked to the core robbing you off your youth. Moreover, there is a dearth of rain shelters on campus for a city that rains like every day during the winter term. Food is expensive and poor. Exam period is unnecessarily long. Why is it many schools, especially in USA, can complete final exams within a week but UBC drags it to a stressful 2.5 weeks? ...Continue reading

Professors are hardworking and students are incredible, but unfortunately this is overshadowed by an inefficient administration that does not care about students at all. Food/housing is overpriced. Administrators are unqualified, incompetent, frequently mess up documents/credit information, and seem more concerned with endless useless construction. Moreover on top of a lack of autumn break, there is a need to have a 17+ day exam season to exacerbate stress when other colleges do it in a week. Avoid unless you like studying 24/7 ...Continue reading

They never seem to learn lessons and always forget to schedule exams for certain courses until a late request is filed which is unfair for people who do not live in this city. How can UBC expect the best of its students by over working them non stop? Moreover, the staff can be rather rude(e.g. the housing office)Finally , the lack of rain shelters is concerning when it rains 28 days in Octobter! ...Continue reading

Very poorly managed school. There are many clubs. The bad: Sadly there is a not enough housing and many, many students commute. UBC is trying to build a city and is selling luxury houses and condos. Construction is everywhere, courses are not well constructed, and teaching is a second thought. ...Continue reading

With an ocean on one side, a forest on the other, and multimillion dollar houses everywhere in between, you'll be lucky if you're commute to/from campus is 30 mins (unless you/family has $$$). Everything is overpriced for what you get, except Tom Horton's. Seriously. Most meals are prepackaged and heated up, yet cost a whopping 10-15 bucks. Outside of the NEST, most food service workers are incompetent or rude. Other than that, gym is a bit lacking. ...Continue reading

This place is not practical at all for daily living, especially when it rains. Can not believe not many people have picked up on it but 3 weeks for exam is ludicrous --look at true world class schools for how exams should be only 1 week. Also, make sure you start learning the material in the summer as there is no autumn holiday or study break despite promises to implement ...Continue reading

She's a fantastic prof who really loves what she teaches. In every lecture she would take a break at least twice and tell us to write a prompt. She'd then circulate around the room and have volunteers read what they wrote, and she'd always be super nice and supportive of their work. Found her assignments to be laid out clearly in the syllabus and she goes over each in class too. Approachable, and definitely knows her stuff. If you go to class most of the time, ask questions, participate and do the writing you'll get a lot out of this class. ...Continue reading
