Outline a second synthesis of N-ethyl-N-methylaniline (the target molecule in Study 23.3) by reductive amination
Eileen Hoang CHE 118B A15 8 February 2016 Examination of Two Component Unknown Mixture Purpose: In this experiment, we are expected to integrate knowledge of physical, chemical, and spectroscopic properties of organic compounds to identify an unknown using chemical tests. Procedure: To the assigned unknown, do the following: 1. A preliminary examination of the assigned unknown (i.e. color, odor, physical state) 2. A microscale boiling point determination as done in the previous lab (Microscale Boiling Point Unknown and t-Pentyl Chloride), using the silicone oil and capillary tube. Repeat the process twice and record both measurements. 3. Classification tests: a. Chromic Acid Test i. Add 1 drop of unknown into 1 mL reagent grade acetone.
