All alkenes are named by using the following rules,

  1. The longest chain determines the parent alkane, and -ane is replaced by -ene.
  2. Numbering is given so that double bonds get the lowest number and substituents get the lowest number.
  3. The E and Z notification should mention when possible.
  4. The double bond number mentioned is essential.
  5. Substituents are placed before the name with their carbon numbers.
  6. The substituents are arranged alphabetically, and prefixes di, tri, etc., are used to denote their numbers.
