A smooth cube of mass m and edge length r slides withspeed v on a horizontal surface

Chapter 10, Problem 62

(choose chapter or problem)

A smooth cube of mass m and edge length r slides withspeed v on a horizontal surface with negligible friction. The cube then moves up a smooth incline that makesan angle u with the horizontal. A cylinder of mass mand radius r rolls without slipping with its center ofmass moving with speed v and encounters an inclineof the same angle of inclination but with sufficient frictionthat the cylinder continues to roll without slipping.(a) Which object will go the greater distance up theincline? (b) Find the difference between the maximumdistances the objects travel up the incline. (c) Explainwhat accounts for this difference in distances traveled.
