A new quality-inspection program is being tested to see if it will reduce the proportion

Chapter 6, Problem 3

(choose chapter or problem)

Exercises 1 to 4 describe experiments that require a hypothesis test. For each experiment, describe the appropriate test. State the appropriate null and alternate hypotheses, describe the test statistic, and specify which table should be used to find the P-value. If relevant, state the number of degrees of freedom for the test statistic.

A new quality-inspection program is being tested to see if it will reduce the proportion of parts shipped out that are defective. Under the old program, the proportion of defective parts was 0.10. Two hundred parts that passed inspection under the new program will be sampled, and the number of defectives will be counted. The new program will be implemented if it is shown that the proportion of defectives is less than 0.10.
