Diet and bowel cancer. It has long been thought that eating a healthier dietreduces the risk of bowel cancer. A large study cast doubt on this advice. Thesubjects were 2079 people who had polyps removed from their bowels in the pastsix months. Such polyps may lead to cancer. The subjects were randomly assignedto a low-fat, high-fiber diet or to a control group in which subjects ate their usualdiets. All subjects were checked for polyps over the next four years.8 (a) Outline the design of this experiment.(b) Surprisingly, the occurrence of new polyps did not differ significantlybetween the two groups.
