Effects of day care. The Carolina Abecedarian Project investigated the effectof high-quality preschool programs on children from poor families. Children wererandomly assigned to two groups. One group participated in a year-roundpreschool program from the age of three months. The control group receivedsocial services but no preschool. At age 21, 35% of the treatment group and 14%of the control group were attending a four-year college or had already graduatedfrom college. Is each of the boldface numbers a parameter or a statistic?
