(a) Use the mouse to slide the Pooled Standard Error at the top of the displayto the right. You see that the group means do not change, but the spread ofthe observations in each group increases. What happens to F and P as thespread among the observations in each group increases? What are the valuesof F and P when the slider is all the way to the right? This is similar toFigure 25.6(a): variation within groups hides the differences among the groupmeans.(b) Leave the Pooled Standard Error slider at the extreme right of its scale, sothat spread within groups stays fixed. Use the mouse to move the group meansapart. What happens to F and P as you do this?
