QUESTION:

Predict the outcome of the reactions represented by the following equations by using the activity series, and balance the equations.

(a) Cu (s) + HCl (aq) →

(b) \(I_{2}(s)+N a B r(a q) \rightarrow\)

(c) \(M g(s)+\mathrm{CuSO}_{4}(a q) \rightarrow\)

(d) \(C l_{2}(g)+K B r(a q) \rightarrow\)

ANSWER:

Solution 54P:

Here we have to complete the given chemical reaction by using the activity series, and balance the equations.

Step 1

(a)   Cu (s) + HCl (aq) →No reaction

The reaction  between Cu and HCl is not possible because according to the activity series Cu is less reactive than the H-atom present in the acid (HCl).
