QUESTION:

21-32. More graphing Make a complete graph of the following functions. If an interval is not specified, graph the function on its domain. Use a graphing utility to check your work.

f(x) = x + 2 cos x on \([-2\pi,\ 2\pi]\)

ANSWER:

Solution:- Step1 Given function is f(x)= x+2 cos(x) on[-2 , 2 ] And the domain of given function is [-2 , 2 ] The given function is not symmetrical about x-axis and y-axis. Since it is not an even or odd function. Step2 Differentiate the given equation to find f’(x) we get, f’(x)= 1-2 sin(x) Again differentiate f’(x) to find f”(x) we get, f”(x)=-2 cos(x) Step3 To get extreme value we have to use f’(x)=0 1-2 sin(x)=0 1=2sin(x) 1 sin(x)= 2 V
