Starting from bromobenzene and any other reagents and solvents you need, show how you would synthesize the following compounds. Any of these products may be used as starting materials in subsequent parts of this problem.

(a) 1-phenylpropan-1-ol

(b) 1-phenylpropene

(c) 1-phenylpropan-2-ol

(d) 3-phenylprop-2-en-1-ol

(e) 2-phenylbutan-2-ol

Step-1

(a)Synthesis of 1-phenylpropan-1-ol

1-phenylpropan-1-ol can be synthesized from bromobenzene. This reaction has been carried out in presence of Mg , in ether medium and form phenylmagnesium bromide (Grignard reagent RMgX) which on reaction with propanal  in acidic medium form 1-phenylpropan-1-ol .

(b)Synthesis of 1-phenylpropene

1-phenylpropene can be synthesized from 1-phenylpropan-1-ol. In this reaction dehydration of 1-phenylpropan-1-ol has been carried out by  heating with H2SO4 ,it releases one molecule of water (H2O) and 1-phenylpropene has formed.

(c)Synthesis of 1-phenylpropan-2-ol

The preparation of 1-phenylpropan-2-ol is a base catalysed reaction. In this reaction 1-phenylpropene is react with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in presence of BH3 and tetrahydrofuran (THF), it release one water molecule (H2O) and form 1-phenylpropan-2-ol.
