What is the basic form for the names of molecular compounds?
ANSWER:Solution 19Q
Here, we are going to discuss the basic form for the names of molecular compounds.
Step 1:
There are certain basic rules which must be followed while writing the names of molecular compounds. They are:
- While naming a molecular compound, the more electropositive(forms positive ions in chemical reactions) element is written first and the more electronegative(forms negative ions in chemical reactions) element is written in last.
- The more electronegative element is written or ended with an -ide suffix.
- Both the elements are preceded by a prefix(e.g., di, tri, tetra, etc.) to indicate the number of atoms of the element in the molecular compound.
