a)Mass of C2H402 = 2(12) + 4(1) + 2(16) = 24 + 4 + 32 = 60

Mass of C is C2H402 = 2(12) = 24

Percentage mass = Mass of element in compound / Mass of total compound * 100

= 24/ 60 * 100 =40%

b)mass of  CH2O2= 12+2(1)+2(16)=46.

Mass of C inCH2O2=12

Percent mass =mass of element in the compound /mass of total compound*100

=12/46*100=26.08%

c)Mass of C3H9N =3(12)+9(1)+1(14)=59

Mass of C in C3H9N=3(12)=36.

Percent mass =mass of element in the compound /mass of total compound*100

=36/39*100

=92.30%.

d)Mass of C4H12N2=4(12)+1(12)+14(2)=88

Mass of Cin C4H12N2=48.

Percent mass =mass of element in the compound /mass of total compound*100

=48/88*100
