Here, we are going to explain the Lewis structure for each compound containing ionic and covalent bond.

(a) RbIO2

RbIO2 contains both the ionic (Rb-O) and covalent (O-I) bond. Rb-O is ionic due to the difference in large electronegativity between Rb and O whereas IO2-is polyatomic anion having I-O covalent bond by sharing of electrons between them.

The Lewis structure for  RbIO2 is given below,

Valence electron of I = 7

Valence electron for O = 6

Valence electron for Rb =1

Total valence electrons = 1+ 7+ 6x2 = 20 e

RbIO2------> Rb+ +IO2-
